According to the experts, women are three times as likely to suffer from incontinence. Though men over age 75 comprise a large portion of the more than 25 million Americans who suffer from incontinence, the National Association of Incontinence estimates that nearly 80 percent of those who must deal with this awkward situation are women. And experts say about 13 million of those sufferers have severe problems with the medical condition. Even so, a variety of products including incontinence pads, allow women to deal with this common issue while living a full life.

Women May Be Reluctant to Use Incontinence Pads

Incontinence is a condition that affects young and old alike. Around the world more than 200 million people suffer from the condition. In addition many of those sufferers have the condition because of something as simple as stress. But by far, women bear the brunt of this medical condition. Why are women prone to suffer from incontinence? From child birth, to weight gain after childbirth, to the natural aging process, any one of these factors are among the variety of reasons that women have a higher rate of incontinence than others. Even with its prevalence among women, market research shows that women wait as many as 6.5 years before they visit a doctor and get a diagnosis of incontinence. It seems that women would rather weather the embarrassing accidents, wet pants and even depression that may accompany the loss of bladder control rather than turn to medical supplies like incontinence pads to help them the condition. Perhaps the diagnosis is to embarrassing or that they do not want to be associated with a problem that affects the elderly. But surveys show that women are more frightened of the cure than the condition itself.

Perhaps it is because they worry about their appearance. Or perhaps they think the incontinence pads will be uncomfortable or not incongruent with their lifestyle. Whatever the reason women wait so long to come to terms with their incontinence, the truth is the modern-day personal care industry has created an array of medical supplies that will allow them to deal with this issue in a discreet manner befitting any lady. Pads are thinner so that they can be worn with any of the latest styles and they have several different varieties.  With the myriad of styles in incontinence pads women need not worry about living their lives while facing up to this common condition.
